Children’s Ministry: February Recap

Our Memory Verse for the month: 1 John 4:19

“We love because He first loved us”.

The whole world sees February, as Love month - As short as it might be!

That means all of our children are going to be exposed to and possibly leading conversations about love - My eldest is only 4 so that’s quite a scary thought. If, he doesn’t already know the true meaning of love.

Yes - We got to have a look at real hearts too! The kids loved it!

So for the whole month, we looked at love and learnt these truths:

  • God is love

  • Our memory verse: We love because He first loved us.” All the kids will be able to tell you that in that verse “we” relates to themselves and “He” is God.

  • How to identify true love - “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonour others, it is not self seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs….” 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

  • That if God’s love is in us, we’ll love others - God’s love is not just for us - It spreads!

One of our favourite object lessons this month was showing God’s love spreading - Feel free to take the idea for your own Sunday school sessions!

God’ Love Object Lesson

What you need:

  • 1 Packet of Skittles

  • Hot/ warm water

  • Plate or wipeable surface

What to do:

Ask the children to place all the skittles in a circle - Explaining that each skittle represents a person or themselves.

If age appropriate, ask them to guess what they think will happen once the water/ God’s love touches each of them.

Pour the water onto the plate & watch what happens!

Hope you found that helpful! Definitely an eye for resources for upcoming months! Have a great day!
